Course Description

SOW-110P - Social Work Practicum (3 credits)
Prerequisite(s): PREREQUISITES: SOW101
This course describes how fieldwork is an essential component of professional development for anyone pursuing a career in Social Work. The focus of this practicum is to provide the student with an introduction to the many aspects of fieldwork within the social work profession, as well as to provide hands-on experience in a community agency. Fieldwork is an integral part of the educational process. It is among the most valuable practical learning experiences a beginning social worker will have. It becomes possible to transfer theoretical knowledge to real-life situations when one has the opportunity to practice in an agency setting. Agencies are selected on the basis of the quality of their professional practice, their dedication to addressing social work issues, and their interest in social work education.
