On December 6, 2011, Allegheny County Council approved a tax increase that could negate a proposed $7 million reduction in CCAC's 2012 allocation from the county and restore a $2.5 million cut enacted in the current fiscal year. This is very good news. I want to thank CCAC's students, alumni, employees and friends for your support and encouragement as we worked with council members to convey the importance of maintaining CCAC funding and keeping the college affordable.
Although the college is a beneficiary of this County Council action, the 2011 reduction will not be offset for several months. Therefore, we must continue to honor our cost containment and revenue enhancement measures in effect currently. As soon as feasible, I will work with President’s Cabinet to prioritize the release of frozen positions, to subsidize the limited budget for instruction and to move ahead with deferred equipment purchases and capital projects.
I am sending a note to County Council members and the incoming County Executive, Rich Fitzgerald, expressing appreciation for their support. I encourage you to do likewise. Those interested in identifying their Allegheny County Council representative may visit Allegheny County Council Members and Allegheny County Council Districts.
Thank you for your continued support.
