| The Health & Physical Education Program (D): Teacher Education, has been updated effective fall 2013. This change effects Health & Physical Education program numbers for track (A), (B), & (C) and (D). Student enrolling in Health & Physical Education Program for the first time beginning summer 2013 term should enroll in program 020.2. Associate of Science (020.2)
The Health & Physical Education program prepares students for transfer to four-year institutions with a broad college background and skill and knowledge in one of the following areas: fitness, sports and lifetime recreation; exercise and sports science; sports management; or health and physical education teacher preparation.
Students work with a transfer counselor to design a program of studies to meet the requirements for their chosen four-year institution.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:
- Explain within the health and physical education discipline, kinesiology, functional anatomy, exercise physiology, health/wellness, injury prevention and treatment.
- Apply skill in risk factor and health status identification, fitness appraisal and exercise prescription.
Incorporate suitable and innovative activities related to improving an individual’s functional capacity and overall well-being. - Choose a health and physical education program of studies that successfully matriculates with a university program in a related major.
- Utilize skills in health and physical education to gain professional certifications, employment in the field and/or personal health.
Students may earn a bachelor's degree in Fitness, Sports & Lifetime Recreation; Exercise & Sport Science; Sports Management; or Health & Physical Education Teacher preparation as well as other related majors. Graduates prepare for study in the professions, including exercise physiology, sports medicine, health club management, cardiac rehabilitation, athletic administration, sports management and Health and Physical Education teachers.
