Nursing Accreditation

As of March 2013, The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and its Board of Commissioners granted the associate nursing program of CCAC continuing accreditation with a follow up report to be submitted in two years. Following the acceptance of the follow up report, the next ACEN evaluation visit will be scheduled for Fall 2020.

 Program Overview

Thank you for your interest in the CCAC Nursing program. Admission to the program is a separate process from admission to CCAC. Admission to the Nursing program is selective and requires that students have a high school diploma or GED. In addition, applicants must have successfully completed one year of high school chemistry with a lab with a C grade or better. To complete this chemistry requirement, college chemistry may be taken. Students will be required to take the college placement exams in reading, English and math unless the placement testing is waived by prior college course work or SAT scores. These developmental courses must be completed with a C grade or better to be admitted to the Nursing program.

The Professional Nursing Law permits the Nursing Board to consider the moral character of any license candidate. The college, in its admission process, will consider information regarding criminal convictions and /or crimes of moral turpitude. Admission is conditional pending receipt and evaluation of a criminal /child abuse background check to determine whether there is any conviction which may bar the student from the Nursing program.

In addition, a current physical examination record, including current immunization status must be submitted before any student can begin the Nursing program.

Drug screening is required prior to admission and within the Nursing program. If a student tests positive, the student will not be permitted to continue in the Nursing program.

All students are strongly encouraged to speak with an advisor prior to applying to the Nursing program. The Nursing Admission Packet reviews prerequisites and information.

Fall 2013 Nursing Admission Appeal Process

Students who wish to appeal may do so by submitting a written request to have their files reconsidered.  These requests must include the following:

- your reason for appealing our decision;
- what you feel was overlooked in the review of your file (if anything); and
- documentation to support your reason for appeal. (For example, if you were denied for not having
  completed chemistry prior to the application deadline, you may provide transcripts showing  
  otherwise.)

Appeals are due no later than Friday, May 3, 2013.  Students will be notified of appeal decisions by May 10, 2013.  All decisions are final.  PLEASE NOTE: Students who win their appeal must still be ranked based on application score to determine if the score was high enough for entry into one of our campuses. Students, who win their appeal, but have lower scores than other eligible applicants cannot be admitted.  For example, if a student was denied because they had not completed MAT 090, but provides proof that the courses was indeed completed before the deadline, the student will then be moved from the ineligible list to the eligible list and then ranked with the other eligible students.  However, the application score must be considered as there are 400 eligible students who did not get a seat at any campus, thus we cannot skip over more qualified applicants.
