HIT–Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the Associate Degree in Health Information Technology, the graduate will be able to:

  • Apply legal principles, policies, regulations and standards for the control and use of health information
  • Monitor, interpret and apply laws and accreditation, licensure and certification standards affecting healthcare data
  • Review health records documentation for accuracy and completeness according to regulations and standards
  • Perform quantitative analysis of health records
  • Perform functions related to collection, storage, and retrieval of healthcare data
  • Query databases to retrieve information
  • Collect, compute, analyze, interpret, and present statistical data related to health care services
  • Abstract health records for department indices/databases/registries
  • Code, classify, and index diagnoses and procedures for the purpose of reimbursement, standardization, retrieval and statistical analysis
  • Develop, implement and monitor procedures to ensure healthcare data integrity
  • Apply principles of supervision and leadership and the tools used to effectively manage human resources, financials and the methods for analyzing and improving departmental systems
  • Apply quality improvement tools and techniques to improve departmental processes
