The college is required to send you a 1098-T Form (tuition statement). Regulations require that 1098-T forms are mailed to students by January 31 of each calendar year.
Eligible educational institutions may choose to report payments received or amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses. The Community College of Allegheny County has chosen to use amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses. However, for your convenience, we also include a statement of all activity on your student account which provides payment information. This represents the best information we can provide for the purpose of determining your tax credit.
There are two tax credits available to help offset the costs of higher education by reducing the amount of your income tax. They are: American opportunity credit; and lifetime learning credit. A tax credit reduces the amount of income tax you may have to pay.
Not every taxpayer is eligible to claim an education tax credit. However, if you plan to take advantage of either tax credit, you may need more specific information than the statement of account we provide. The college does not provide tax advice.
