CCAC has been cited among the top five computer training centers in the Pittsburgh region by the Pittsburgh Business Times since 1995. The CCAC Center for Professional Development (CPD) offers a comprehensive selection of software training classes. 

Learn the latest word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing and networking software releases on PCs in one of CCAC's state-of-the-art microcomputer labs on campus, or on our new laptop computers at your own company site. Courses are offered for both beginners and advanced users.

All courses will be held at our West Hills Center located in Oakdale, PA.

Software Course Descriptions

Access Workshop 1
In this 3-1/2 hour course, learn the basics of Microsoft Access, including creating, entering data, editing data, saving and printing a database. Topics will include, basic creation, editing and navigating of records, basic users of tables, queries, forms, reports and a basic introduction to database structure.

Access Workshop 2
This 3-1/2 hour intermediate level Access course will build upon your basic skills. Topics include data types, and intermediate level of understanding of forms and sub forms, multiple table queries, "and/or" queries, various types of advanced queries, intermediate techniques for developing reports, importing and exporting data to other application software and an introduction to using hyperlinks with Access. Participants should have the skills learned in Access Workshop 1.

Access Workshop 3
This 3-1/2 hour advanced Access course will enhance your knowledge and skills. Topics include an advanced level of understanding of forms and sub forms including check boxes, buttons and creating custom help, managing database objects, creating and modifying macros, creating modules, and techniques to manage the database. Participants should have the skills learned in Access Workshop 1 and 2.

Excel Workshop 1
In this 3-1/2 hour course learn the basics of Microsoft Excel, including creating, editing, saving and printing spreadsheets. Topics include formatting labels, values, formulas, functions, relative and absolute cell references, formatting and charts.

Excel Workshop 2
This second level 3-1/2 hour course will build upon skills learned in the basics of Microsoft Excel. Topics will include working with large worksheets, hiding and displaying data, working with multiple worksheets, advanced charting techniques, advanced formatting and list management.

Excel Workshop 3
This advanced third level 3-1/2 hour course will build upon skills learned in the first two Microsoft Excel courses. Topics will include advanced formulas and functions, advanced editing and formatting, custom charting and advanced graphics, data analysis, linking worksheets and custom lists.

Microsoft Project
In this 7 hour course, you will learn project management and create a simple project. Topics include using wizards, tasks scheduling and resources. In addition, creating a work breakdown structure, customizing project views and filtering, grouping and sorting will be covered.

MS Office 2010 Transition
If you’re upgrading to Microsoft Office 2010, you’ll no doubt have questions at first. For example, you may wonder where certain buttons are in the new ribbon interface. This 2-1/2 hour workshop will help you to become familiar with the new look and to identify the features that are common to applications in the MS Office suite. In addition, selected topics such as, how to modify documents, manage tasks and share files can be covered.

MS One Note
This 4-hour course is designed for students with a basic knowledge of MS Office applications.  Topics to be covered include:  customizing the Quick Access toolbar and Ribbon, creating and organizing a custom notebook, creating new sections and pages within sections and the file management tips associated with using One Note.

PowerPoint Workshop 1
In this 3-1/2 hour course, learn the basics of Microsoft PowerPoint, presentation software. Create, edit, enhance, and customize presentations. Topics include adding and formatting text and graphics, use of design templates, working with slides and their various views and various ways to print the presentation.

PowerPoint Workshop 2
In this 3-1/2 hour, second level course build on your basic knowledge of PowerPoint. Topics covered include setting up a slide show, slide masters and techniques, enhancing charts, using multimedia in presentations, working with embedded and linked objects and hyperlinks and adding special effects.

Word Workshop 1
In this 3-1/2 hour course, learn the basics of Microsoft Word, including creating, editing, saving, and printing documents. Topics will include entering and editing text coping, cutting & pasting text, formatting fonts, lines and paragraphs, margins, tabs, indents, bullets, page breaks, use of the thesaurus and the spelling and grammar checker.

Word Workshop 2
Build on your basic knowledge of Microsoft Word with this 3-1/2 hour intermediate level course. Topics covered include illustrating documents with graphics, creating a web site, mail merges, working with styles and templates and developing multi-page documents. Participants should have the skills learned in Word 1.

Word Workshop 3
Topics covered in this 3-1/2 hour course include integrating Word with other programs, exploring advanced graphics, building forms, working with charts and diagrams, collaborating with work-groups and customizing Word. Participants should have the skills learned in Word Workshop 1 and 2.

Visio Workshop 1
Spend 3-1/2 hours in the Visio environment. Learn stencils and their manipulation, basic diagrams and working with flowcharts. Learn to provide your business with graphic representations of process management, network diagramming, charting, organizational charts, project time-lines and work-flow processes.  Prior Windows knowledge required.

Visio Workshop 2
In this second level 3-1/2 hour workshop learn to integrate Visio documents with the Web, store data inside diagrams by working with custom property sets, create, print, and store reports; embed, import and export Visio into Office and other applications. Learn how to connect your Visio diagrams to databases, customize shapes and solutions and experiment with major stencils available in Visio. Previous course work or working knowledge of Visio is strongly suggested.


*Cost per enrollee for classes with 4 or more enrolled participants. 

Classes with an enrollment of  three or less will be conducted, but at the following rates.

  • Classes 3-1/2 hours in length: total cost $390.00 (per enrollee cost - divided by the number of enrolled participants).
  • Classes 6 hours in length: total cost $600.00 (per enrollee cost - divided by the number of enrolled participants). Each enrolled participant will be charged an additional $25.00 book fee.
  • Classes 7-1/2 hours in length: total cost $765.00 (per enrollee cost - divided by the number of enrolled participants). Each enrolled participant will be charged an additional $25.00 book fee.
