Effective July 1, 2010, the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) will begin using the Federal Direct Student Loan program. This program provides low-interest loans for students and parents directly from the Department of Education instead of private banks or other financial institutions.

With direct loans, students:

• borrow directly from the federal government and have a single contact—the Direct Loan Servicing Center—for everything related to loan repayment.
• have 24-hour online access to account information at Direct Student Loan Servicing.
• may choose from several repayment plans.

All students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA).

Students seeking to supplement their financial aid award with Direct Stafford loans must complete the Student Loan Request form and submit the completed form to the financial aid office. In addition, when applying for a Direct Loan, a Master Promissory Note (MPN) needs to be completed for loan funds to become available. MPNs can be completed at Direct Loan Master Promissory Note.

 Completed forms—along with any questions or concerns—should be directed to the campus or center the student is planning to attend.
