09/20/2010 -- Community Education online store at CCAC earns $1 million in revenue

Press Release

PITTSBURGH—The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) Community Education online store reached the one million dollar revenue mark this month, one year after launching. Over 10,000 individual registrations were recorded.

Community Education is a program of non-credit, fee-based classes and activities designed to serve individuals with educational goals that do not require college credit. Community Education offers workforce and personal enrichment courses in a variety of areas including business, computers, world languages, fitness and health, cooking, music and dance for adults and children of all ages.

The online registration package was developed by CCAC Information Technology team members Don Broderick and Jason Lander in partnership with Community Education. Students are able to search and register for courses by visiting the CCAC Community Education website at http://shopcommunityed.ccac.edu. The newly developed online system will now be shared with the four other CCAC non-credit divisions for any open enrollment classes scheduled.

Lawrence Furlong, executive director of Community Education at CCAC states, “When our college-wide resources and efforts combine on a project, we should never be surprised at how successful we can be.”

The efficiency of online registration reduces external call center processing costs and greatly reduces the amount of internal processing of mail-in registrations.
