Thomas A. Christopher is president of Follett Higher Education Group, the largest operator of college bookstores in North America. With over 700 stores, it ranks 133 of 500 on the Forbes Magazine listing of the largest private companies in the United States. He joined Follett in 2002.
Christopher has an extensive background in retail, beginning his career as a store manager at Pier One. Climbing the ranks of the retail chain, he eventually held the position of executive vice president of Operations. Later, he served as president of Barnes & Noble Retail Division, where he helped develop the ‘superstore’ concept and grew the chain from sales of $150 million to $700 million. He then became president and chief operating officer of Restoration Hardware. Growing the company from five stores to 107, and annual revenue from $4 million to $370 million, Christopher clearly demonstrated his expertise in retail operations.
An alumnus of CCAC, Christopher continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from Kent State University. He was awarded an honorary Associate of Arts in Humane Letters and addressed CCAC graduates at the college’s 2010 Commencement ceremonies.
In the same year, Christopher was nationally recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as one of several outstanding community college alumni.
CCAC is proud to call Thomas A. Christopher a distinguished Alumni and Friend.
