PITTSBURGH—Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) South Campus Theatre presents Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer-prize winning rock musical, Rent, opening Thursday, April 12, and running through Sunday, April 22. The cast includes students from the CCAC–South Campus Theatre program.
Based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La bohème, it tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
On Broadway, Rent gained critical acclaim and won a Tony Award for Best Musical among other awards. The success of the show led to several national tours and numerous foreign productions. In 2005 it was adapted into a motion picture that featured most of the original Broadway cast members.
Admission is a suggested donation of $5 per person with proceeds going to the CCAC–South Campus Drama Club. Reserved seating is not available. For more information, please call 412.469.6219. The CCAC–South Campus theatre is located at 1750 Clairton Road in West Mifflin, PA 15122.
