PITTSBURGH—The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is one of 10 community colleges nationwide—and the only one from Pennsylvania—selected to participate in Phase Two of the Developing a Community College Student Roadmap Project, part of the Liberal Education and America’s Promise developed by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). The project is made possible by a grant from the MetLife Foundation in line with MetLife Foundation’s commitment to increasing the success of community college students.

AAC&U’s Roadmap Project assists community colleges in creating robust and proactive programs of academic support. These programs are tied to expected learning outcomes, engage students upon admission and teach them how to become active partners in their own quest for educational success. The project seeks to “connect the dots” among the varied student support programs on community college campuses and create roadmaps for success applicable at multiple institutions. These roadmaps will be anchored in a set of expected learning outcomes essential for all students to succeed in life beyond college.

“CCAC is honored to have been selected for this opportunity,” said CCAC President Alex Johnson. “This project will enable us to build on our successful student success initiatives to ensure that students have both solid plans and the tools to achieve them.”

Funding from the MetLife Foundation has enabled AAC&U to expand its initial group of 12 institutions to add another 10 community colleges to the project. As one of these Phase Two colleges, CCAC was chosen following a rigorous application and evaluation process, one in which national leaders selected community colleges that had constructive plans in place designed to improve student learning outcomes and create pathways to student success through evidence-based interventions and programs. CCAC and the other nine colleges were chosen because they are poised to become national models in supporting and advancing community college student success.
