PITTSBURGH—Community College of Allegheny County South Campus Theatre presents the Pulitzer award-winning play, Picnic, at 8:00 p.m. November 7 through November 9 and November 14 through November 16. Directed by CCAC Theater Professor George Jaber, the production also includes a 10:00 a.m. matinee performance on November 13 and a 2:00 p.m. matinee on November 17.
The play, which takes place during a Labor Day neighborhood picnic, explores the complex themes of youth, beauty, loneliness and the roles of men and women in 1950s America. Although this year is the 60th anniversary of the play’s Broadway debut, the play is as relevant today as it was when it first premiered.
This year’s CCAC production marks the fourth time Jaber has directed the play for CCAC South Campus. CCAC’s original 1983 production starred WPXI’s Jodine Costanzo, Rosemary Mizerak and Joe Moretti. This year the production has been double cast with the role of Madge being played by Jiane Amoroso and Kristin Brinsley and Hal being played by Dion Westbrooks and Schoeb Mamoor.
Admission to the show is free but donations are encouraged. Proceeds will go to supplement the Kevin Dilworth Memorial Theatre and Dance Scholarship. Dilworth was a CCAC theatre and dance student who passed away from complications due to Cystic Fibrosis in 2012. The first scholarship was awarded to CCAC student Irina Kuslieva who plays Rosemary in the current production.
Seating is not reserved. For more information, call 412.469.6219. The CCAC South Campus Theatre is located at 1750 Clairton Road in West Mifflin, Pa., 15122.
