CCAC Allegheny Campus to host cadaver program for health care providers and students

PITTSBURGH—The Community College of Allegheny County will host an eight-hour program for current health care providers and students interested in witnessing an autopsy of a human cadaver at the Allegheny Campus auditorium on Saturday, April 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CCAC President Dr. Quintin Bullock will give opening remarks at 9:00 a.m.

The live autopsy will be performed by W. Ashton Ennis, MD, associate medical examiner of the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner. Other presenters include Benjamin J. Lawner, DO, MS, EMT-P, FACEP, medical director; Benjamin C. Kautza, MD, trauma/acute care surgeon; and Holly Hamilton, BSN, PHRN, trauma performance improvement coordinator—all from Allegheny General Hospital.

Students will be educated on the human body through visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning experiences. An overview of the role of the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner as well as case reviews by Allegheny General Hospital physicians will also be presented and discussed. This program is eligible for eight hours of continuing education for all prehospital providers by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
