CCAC hosts 5th Annual TAZ Writers’ Conference on September 8

PITTSBURGH-The Community College of Allegheny County's Allegheny Campus will host the 5th Annual TAZ (The Authors' Zone) Writers' Conference on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (The exact location is to be determined, based on enrollment.) The TAZ Writers' Conference is an opportunity for writers of all levels to receive in-depth instruction on various writing-related topics in one day.

A collaborative effort of TAZ, author Ann Howley and CCAC, the conference is designed for new and established writers looking to expand their knowledge and to network with other writers, publishers and editors as well as to hear from accomplished presenters. Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a marketing consultant and to have a portion of their manuscript evaluated by an editor (for an additional fee). The keynote speaker is Hattie Fletcher, managing editor of Creative Nonfiction, a literary magazine based in Pittsburgh.

The conference will offer the following workshops:

  • Memoir writing - presented by Ann Howley
  • The sense of an ending (fiction writing) - presented by Daniel Lowe
  • Children's books - presented by Debra Rae Sanchez
  • Songwriting workshop - presented by Sam Wieder
  • Writing science fiction and fantasy - presented by Stephanie Keyes
  • Legal considerations - presented by Michael G. Monyok
  • Marketing your book before and after its release (panel discussion)
