CCAC student nurses host free health picnic for area homeless
PITTSBURGH—The Community College of Allegheny County Allegheny Campus Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) Club will host their third “Cookout in the Park with Healthcare Options” on Saturday, September 10, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in Cedar Park located on Pittsburgh’s North Side, across the street from Light of Life Mission at 10 East North Avenue.
The event, which will feature 10 health booth stations, is aimed at helping the area’s homeless and others obtain free healthcare, safety and prevention information, including blood pressure and diabetes screenings, HIV testing and pregnancy testing. Other participating organizations include Allegheny Health Network, UPMC and the Light of Life Rescue Mission.
In addition to the free health information and screening, CCAC student nurses will offer and serve a picnic lunch for all participants. The nursing students and alumni will also provide games for children, as well as handouts of toiletries, clothing, backpacks and school supplies. Organizers expect to serve 200 to 250 homeless individuals at the event.
