PITTSBURGH— Community College of Allegheny County will host a youth town hall meeting titled “Youth Speak & We Listen!” on Thursday, October 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on CCAC’s Allegheny Campus, located on the North Shore. The meeting will take place on the second floor of the Student Services Center on Ridge Avenue.

Speakers will include Pittsburgh Police Chief Cameron McLay, Superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools Linda Lane, Rev. Rodney Adam Lyde and other community leaders. In addition to speaking, they will be seeking input from the young people in attendance. A youth panel made up of students enrolled at CCAC, as well as high school students, will participate in the discussion.

The following questions will be explored:
•    What causes violence in homes and communities?
•    How can we change the culture of violence in Pittsburgh?
•    What are youth ideas about getting along with others?

This event is one of many activities being organized during the “Week of Non-Violence,” October 17–25, by Black Women for Positive Change (BW4PC) in several U.S. cities. The Pittsburgh meeting is sponsored by BW4PC; Community College of Allegheny County; Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith; Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak; Hill House; Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh; PCTV; Pittsburgh Week of Non-Violence Steering Committee; POISE Foundation; United Steelworkers; and YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh.
