Psi Beta is the national honor society in psychology for two-year colleges. All eligible
CCAC students (see Qualifications below), are welcome to join the North Campus Psi
Beta chapter. To qualify for membership in Psi Beta, students must have completed
a psychology class at CCAC and must have earned an A or B in that class. They must
also have an overall 3.25 GPA. Students do not have to be psychology majors to join.
Qualified North Campus students will receive an email several weeks prior to the spring or fall induction with instructions on how to join. Questions about eligibility or membership should be directed to Prof. Allison Caveglia Barash, 412-369-4129) or Dr. Anne Louise Dailey.
There is a one-time $50 membership fee collected by the national office. There are no other fees. At induction, Psi Beta members receive a Psi Beta pin, a Psi Beta certificate suitable for framing and Psi Beta blue and gold cords to wear at graduation. Members also receive the Psi Beta Newsletter for two years following their induction. Notation of Psi Beta membership will become part of your CCAC transcript.
Our chapter of Psi Beta holds an induction of new members each semester (spring and fall). This also serves as a general membership meeting where we feature an outstanding guest speaker on a timely psychological topic. Here you can meet other Psi Beta members and officers and learn about our activities and how to become more involved.
The mission of Psi Beta is to promote professional development of psychology students in two-year colleges through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research, and community service.
Psi Beta National Honor Society in Psychology members wear royal blue and gold cords for graduation. Royal blue is the color of wisdom and truth. Golden yellow represents science and research. (3rd Policy in the Bylaws for Psi Beta)
