These moments described by Dr. King are extraordinary. I have found that the journey
to becoming a highly educated person affords many such moments. As Provost and Executive
Vice President at CCAC, I see my job as placing in the hands of our faculty and staff,
the time, the tools, and the inspiration needed to create opportunities for “unutterable
Plutarch wrote, "The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled."
What our students find at CCAC is a place to lay the foundation of a career, a life,

Stuart T. Blacklaw, PhD assumed the role of Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic
and Student Affairs on August 3, 2015. Dr. Blacklaw previously served as Provost and
Vice President for Instruction and Student Development at Yavapai College in Prescott,
Arizona; as Vice President for Instruction at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor,
Michigan; and as the Dean of Curriculum at Monroe Community College in Rochester,
New York. He taught Communication and Media Studies on the faculty of Olivet College
for 12 years before moving into administration.
He holds a PhD in Higher Education Administration from Capella University, a Master
of Arts in Telecommunication Arts from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor
of Science in Communication from Olivet College.
