The Central Service Technician certificate program is suited for individuals who are detail-oriented and have a knack for organization. Central service technicians provide vital support to all patient care services in health care facilities. They are responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storing and distributing the medical devices and supplies needed in patient care, especially during surgery. This one-semester program exposes students to all facets of central service functioning and equips them for entry-level employment in clinics and hospitals. Clinical experiences in area hospital central service departments are included, providing students with valuable hands-on experience.
Graduates are eligible for national certification through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management’s certification exam, which upon passing, makes them eligible to work in any state. Most of the graduates secure employment at their clinical sites.

“I liked the fact that the program provides a lot of hands-on experience. I also had an excellent teacher who took the time to explain everything and answer all of our questions. The knowledge that I gained in class plus the on-the-job training helped me become certified. I now have a great job, working with great people.” –Tina T., Class of 2018
