Stationary Engineer License Renewal

The Center for Professional Development offers a robust selection of continuing education courses required for your yearly Trade/Stationary Engineer license renewal. All courses are eight hours, utilizing curriculum prepared by subject matter experts. Upon completion, all Stationary Engineers and Boiler Firemen will be issued a certificate with 0.80 Continuing Education Units. A record of your attendance will be reported to the City of Pittsburgh.  Please be sure to bring a copy of your current Stationary Engineer license number with you on the day of class.

Refund Policy: Students who wish to withdraw from a class must do so by the end of the last business day before the class starts. No refund of tuition, non-credit registration fees or materials fees shall be granted unless such materials are returned unused.

Fire Damper Operation and Inspection Basics

A basic approach to fire dampers operation, inspection, laws & regulation that currently exist and are in development within the city. Smoke, fire, and combination dampers and their operation are discussed.

Fire Codes You Need to Know

Learn how each code agency views Fire Dampers, depending weather it is being installed in a wall, ceiling, or floor and the type of construction. Review inspection criteria, after the installation date, re-inspection, then on to a 4-6-year inspection depending on the classification of the buildings.

AutoCAD - Basics

In this eight-hour course, the student will be introduced to the concepts and techniques used by drafters and designers to create and modify computer generated drawings. Learners will set up the AutoCAD screens and toolbars, use basic drawing commands and simple layers and drawing enhancements.

Compressors/Condensers/Cooling Towers

This Unit provides comprehensive instruction on three major components of refrigeration and air conditioning systems: compressors, condensers, and cooling towers. Gain knowledge of types of compressors, (open, semi-hermetic, and hermetic). Air-cooled condensers, water-cooled condensers, evaporative condensers and cooling towers, and water treatment and safety.

Pneumatic Controls

Focus on basic control theory, air supply, thermostats and controllers. Additional topics include relays, valve and damper actuators and examples of typical control and system applications. Safety with pneumatic control equipment will be covered.
