Continuing Professional Development: Human Resources

Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program

Co-sponsored by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the CEBS Program is a course curriculum covering the legal, financial and organizational framework within which employee benefit plans must function. The Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation has helped over 100,000 professionals grow in their careers. The CEBS program offers two distinct certifications for those working in employee benefits and compensation:

Earn a designation in the Group Benefits Associate (GBA) or the Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) by completing the three required courses for each of the specialty tracks. Complete a five-course requirement and you can earn the CEBS Designation which is a total compensation credential that is recognized for the depth and breadth of critical knowledge that it provides. It combines the GBA and RPA curriculum to build a total compensation perspective.

For those new to the benefit field, CEBS can provide a solid knowledge base of the concepts and principles upon which employee benefit plans are designed. For the experienced benefit professional it can be a valuable refresher course, providing public recognition and respect for their expertise.

We recommend starting with GBA 1 or RPA 1 and work toward earning your Group Benefits Associate (GBA) or Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) on your path to the full CEBS. Each course requires the successful completion of a 100-question comprehensive exam. Exams cover content from the study guide and textbooks assigned to each course.
