Biography

Emily Marshman grew up in the Pittsburgh area and loves calling Pittsburgh her home. Growing up, she enjoyed science and always envisioned herself teaching. She pursued her secondary education degree to become a high school physics teacher. However, she still wanted to learn more about physics and teach at the college level. Therefore, she enrolled in graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh's physics department. Her research focus was physics education. Emily developed curricular materials for upper-division physics courses and investigated aspects of student motivation in the classroom.

After her post-doc at the University of Pittsburgh, Emily accepted a position as an assistant professor of physics at Community College of Allegheny County. She enjoys teaching at the community college level and helping a diverse group of students learn physics. When she is not in the classroom, Emily loves spending time with her daughter, Story, gardening, cooking and baking, playing piano, learning new crafts, and painting.
