Biography

Franklin Harvey has enthusiastically and passionately taught Philosophy and Religious Studies for twenty-five years. In his class, you will start to find the answers to life's boundary questions, the questions science can't answer, the questions you lay awake at night thinking about: Why am I here? What's the meaning of life? What happens after I die? Why do good people suffer? Does my life matter? The learning outcome I strive for is that after you leave my class, you will understand that "the unexamined life is not worth living" (Socrates).

I teach Philosophy and Religious Studies because without them, "Nations all over the world will be producing generations of useful, docile machines rather than complete citizens who can think for themselves, criticize tradition and authority, and understand the significance of another person's sufferings and achievements” (Martha Nussbaum).

I play competitive chess and am fluent in ancient Greek and Latin

"The mindset that values openness understands that the truth can be inconvenient and uncomfortable, doesn't always respect our wishes, and sometimes hurts. Good feelings and reality don't always mix" —Amy Wax
