One thing I really enjoy about teaching English 101L is that I get to work with a colleague who serves as the embedded tutor for the L section. I've learned so much from Dr. Don Campbell and Dr. Anyango when they served as my embedded tutors. Teaching with colleagues is the best way, I think, to become a better teacher, and I also just love comparing what we're currently reading and chatting about books before or after class!

In my opinion, there is no more important skill for any educated person than the ability to understand how someone creates a text and to be able to skillfully read and write. I truly believe I am helping students to gain skills that will measurably improve their lives as well as serve them well in a 4-year college or in a profession.

I am an avid reader and writer of poetry.
