The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) has announced the launch of a Doula training and certification program in partnership with Masters of Maternity (MOM). MOM defines a "doula" as a trained childbirth professional who provides guidance, information, emotional support and physical comfort to a birthing person before, during and just after childbirth. Those interested in the program are invited to attend one of two virtual information sessions scheduled for June 27 and June 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Registration is required to attend: Click here to register.

The first of its kind in the region, CCAC's Doula training and certification program is a nine-week, 27-hour, hands-on, hybrid program beginning fall 2023 at Braddock Hills Center and Allegheny Campus. Students completing the training will receive a Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Perinatal Doula (IPD) certification, granted by the MOM organization in partnership with CCAC. The program is open to anyone age 18 or older and, while the curriculum is designed to be accessible to people without a background in health care, the program also provides an opportunity for health care professionals to expand their knowledge and skills.

"This groundbreaking, all-inclusive curriculum was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to support birthing persons and their families and how to lead a successful doula business." said Debra Roach, CCAC Vice President for Workforce Development.

In addition to perinatal education and training on how to create a successful business, the program will prepare students to apply for Medicaid reimbursement, a pathway progressing through The Pennsylvania Doula Commission.
