Auditor General Visits CCAC to Announce Job Opportunities for Community College Graduates
Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor visited CCAC';s Allegheny Campus to unveil his department';s expanded career pathways for CCAC graduates of associate degree programs in the areas of accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math or another closely related field.
"Our goal is to hire more Pennsylvanians than ever before," Auditor General DeFoor said. "As a community college graduate, I can tell you firsthand that associate degree programs offer practical, hands-on training that prepares students for high-demand careers like auditing. That';s why I am so excited to be at CCAC to promote that the Department of the Auditor General will be hiring individuals with associate degrees."
The Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General is the chief fiscal watchdog of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is responsible for using audits to ensure that all state money is spent legally and properly. The mission of the Department is to serve the people of Pennsylvania by improving government accountability, transparency, and the effective use of taxpayer dollars. The department is responsible for financial audits, performance audits, attestation engagements and audits of state tax dollars.
Previously, to be considered for a position at the Department of the Auditor General, candidates needed to hold a bachelor';s degree in accounting or finance and complete 12 credits of accounting as part of their coursework.
"This proactive initiative by the Auditor General will have a positive impact on community college students. At CCAC, we are focused on developing strategic partnerships with business and industry to connect students with family-sustaining jobs in our region. We are grateful to provide a pathway for CCAC graduates to consider important and rewarding careers in the public service sector," said Dr. Quintin Bullock, CCAC president.
The Department of the Auditor General's "Intern to Hire" program is also expanding to include individuals who have received their associate degree within the last six months. The "Intern to Hire" program offers candidates full-time positions in the department upon graduation from an undergraduate or graduate program if they work three to six months and have had successful performance reviews.
