About the CCAC Barbering Program
The twirling red, white and blue barber pole located inside the Homewood-Brushton Center marks the site of the CCAC Barber School, where students get extensive hands-on practice in barbering. The space includes a classroom and a full-size barbershop that features 10 stations complete with all the tools of the trade. In addition to cutting hair, students learn how to color, straighten and style hair as well as learn basic cosmetology skills.
The 1,250-hour program equips students with training in the skills necessary to become licensed through the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners. (Practicing cosmetologists are credited 555 hours toward barbering.) One of the most affordable programs in the region, the training can be completed in just 10 months for full-time students and in 16 months for part-time students. Individuals who are interested in opening their own shop are encouraged to take the program in conjunction with the CCAC Entrepreneurship Certificate.
