Emergency Medical Services
CCAC provides training for the next generation of Emergency Medical professionals. Offering training in both Emergency Medical Responder and Technician roles, CCAC's EMS program is a comprehensive step toward a career in emergency medicine.
Pennsylvania House Representative Valerie Gaydos and the Phi Theta Kappa honor society recognize the value of a CCAC education. As a former EMT student at CCAC, Rep. Gaydos recently visited the CCAC West Hills Center to share how her CCAC experience helped shape her future and to encourage you to also follow your dreams.
Accreditation
The Community College of Allegheny County is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). The EMR, EMT, AEMT and Rescue programs fall under the Emergency Medical Services Act of August 18, 2009, P.L. 308, No. 37, as amended, and as set forth in the rules and regulations. The Pennsylvania Department of Health hereby issues this certificate of accreditation to conduct education programs for prehospital personnel in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Community College of Allegheny County for BLS and ALS training programs.
Emergency Vehicle Operator Training
This program was developed to teach the emergency vehicle operator (EVO) proper driving techniques and covers the mental as well as the physical aspects of the driving task. The program stresses the long-term impact of a crash involving an emergency vehicle on the operator, the emergency service organization and the community in which they serve.
Emergency Medical Responder
This program provides training in emergency medical care designed for initial responders to an accident or medical emergency prior to ambulance arrival. Topics include airway care, CPR, AED, oxygen administration, control of bleeding and prevention of shock, and treatment of trauma and medical emergencies. This course also includes a final practical evaluation of skills and a final written exam of knowledge. Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to take PA Department of Health certification exams for Emergency Medical Responder. PA DOH Functional Position Description for EMR lists capability requirements for certification.
RegisterEmergency Medical Technician

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

If you need the Functional Position Description or ADA Accommodation Policy prior to registration, call 412.788.7507. All students are required to complete a criminal history form.
This course requires the student to have current EMT certification prior to the class start.
Paramedics
Paramedics care for patients at the scene of an accident or sudden illness and while transporting patients by ambulance to the hospital. They are vital members of both the healthcare delivery system and public safety first responder network. They receive extensive education in the use of advanced procedures, medications and specialized equipment to manage medical emergencies and traumatic injuries. Through careful patient assessment and team-oriented medical care, paramedics help prevent and reduce death and disability from illness and injury.
Paramedics generally work for ambulance services or fire departments, but some paramedics find employment in hospital emergency departments, aeromedical services, medical clinics, sports medicine, tactical medicine, industrial medicine and similar occupations.
Graduates of this program are eligible to take the credential examination of the National Registry of EMTs to become a Nationally Registered Paramedic. The Pennsylvania Department of Health recognizes this credential for state paramedic certification.
Prerequisites: Students must have current EMT certification before the class begins.
