Most Memorable CCAC Experience

It's hard to pin down just one, but it would have to be taking CCAC students to the Galapagos Islands for field research in 2018 and 2020. It was truly a life-changing experience for both me and the students, and it was so exciting to lead my students in retracing the footsteps of Charles Darwin, one of my scientific heroes.

Why I Teach What I Teach

I think it's so important for all of us, whether we're going into medical or scientific fields, or not, to understand the fundamentals of science, to be able to critically think about what we hear and distinguish reputable information from misinformation, and to understand how our bodies work. We all have a body, a product of millions of years of evolution. Its workings are remarkable, and one day all of us will have problems with it. I feel like I'm introducing students to the marvels of evolutionary science and how it shaped us, and how we can use that knowledge to heal ourselves and our world. I genuinely love getting to bring people into that world every day.

Something People Might Not Know About Me

I'm an avid fan of fantasy, science fiction and horror, and in my spare time I write short fiction in these genres. I'm also a life-long gamer and a writer for Windmill Game Company, a small-press game publisher. I write horror scenarios through them for a role-playing game called Dread.
