The Black Excellence art exhibition will open Monday, Feb. 17, at CCAC Homewood-Brushton Center (701 N Homewood Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15208). Celebrating African American history, creativity and culture, the show will be open to the public Feb. 17 to Feb. 25 from 8:30PM to 6:30PM.
A collaboration with Michelle Gainey and Fantasy Zellar's Greater Pittsburgh Paints Project, the CCAC exhibit will feature more than 20 creative works of art, photography, videography and writing. Participating artists include Baron Batch (painting), Siroya Mitchell (painting), Emmai Alaquiva (photography), Faydra Williams-Hunter (painting), Sasha Igwe (painting) and Josh Adams (videography).
"This is a celebration of Black excellence designed to expose our students and the immediate community to the wealth of talent and creativity Black artists bring to Pittsburgh," said Dr. Juel Smith, executive director, CCAC Homewood-Brushton Center, and associate dean of Sciences.
In addition to the public exhibit, a private reception is planned for Wed. February 26. The event will include live art displays and the dedication of the Dr. Ralph Proctor African American Heritage Room.
