About Aging Programs
CCAC cares about the mental, physical and emotional well-being of all our students, including those who are seniors. We offer programs for senior students and those who care for them to address the specific needs that come with aging.
Senior Companion Training/Department of Aging Program for Senior Companions
Guest speakers and industry experts offer in-service training for senior caregivers through this Academy program. Training is offered twice each year. A few of the various topics include:
- Art therapy for relaxation and stress reduction
- Devices to assist seniors in taking their medicine
- Overcoming holiday depression
- Humor as therapy
- Annual documentation review
- Home safety
Therapeutic Aging Classes
More than 200 classes are offered by the Academy, at low or no cost to participants, for men and women age 60 and older and adults with disabilities. Programs are based at the senior citizen centers throughout Allegheny County, including the City of Pittsburgh. Both life-enrichment and educational courses are offered. Here are a few examples of courses:
- Aerobics
- Crafts
- Dance
- Nutrition
- Medicare updates
- Insurance plans
